If you were on the main drag of San Francisco‘s Noe Valley yesterday, you may have seen me fiddling with an iPad that Apple sent us for testing. After Sunday brunch at Joe’s 24th Street Cafe, I parked myself at one of the outdoor tables for an hour or so, to see how well the device worked over AT&T‘s much-maligned 3G network. The answer: Well enough, but I noticed what appeared to be a growing amount of network congestion as the afternoon wore on.
I wanted to continue field tests today and see how well the device played in various spots around downtown S.F., but the weather isn’t cooperating. Although Apple sent us a slew of accessories, the one thing I would need today — a dive case — wasn’t in the carton. The weather’s supposed to improve tomorrow, so I plan on wandering from Union Square to South Park and from Maritime Plaza to the Yerba Buena Center in search of a usable cell.
